Mystere & Mr. T

Yesterday afternoon, BF called me at work and asked what my plans for the evening were.

"Well, hmm, let's see, I want to do my nails because they are starting to resemble talons, and I need to get those presents for the Angel Tree at work..."

He then insisted that my "plans" (if that's what you want to call them) were not important, and that he was taking me on a surprise date. "Sweet, no argument here!"

Crummy iPhone pictures

When I got home from work I pulled my hair back and put on some red lipstick.  I've been really wanting to try it and answer my personal question as to whether or not I can pull it off.  When BF came to pick me up, he told me that we were going to see Cirque du Soleil's Mystére!  I was excited to have something to do, but not entirely thrilled because I have seen the show before, and it wasn't the best experience.

Amazing!  We caught BF making a normal smiley face for a camera!

Let's take a stroll down Memory Lane...  Scene:  Prom, Senior Year of High School.

There was a boy I went to school with named "Mr. T." (name changed for anonymity)  When I first met him, I was at our Homecoming Football game my freshman year.  One of my girlfriends, who didn't go to the same school, saw him and thought he was cute.  Another girlfriend of mine went up to "Mr. T" and, pointing towards my friend said, "Do you see my friend over there?  She thinks you're cute."  He took one look at my friend (who was a really pretty girl) and said, "Eww, No."

From that moment on, I knew that not only was he cute, but he was kind-of-a-snot, and if he didn't think my friend was cute, I had NO chance.  So I continued all four years of school, without ever talking to "Mr. T," even though he was friends with my brothers.

Then, one night after Primadonna practice (our Varsity dance team was called the Primadonnas... awesome!), I came home to find a message on my teen-line-answering-machine (back before everyone had a cell phone). "Uhh, hey Morgan.  This is "Mr. T".  I had a question for you, so call me back.  Thanks."  So, I called and he asked me to prom, over the phone.  I thought it was a joke at first, but then I realized, this is High School, it's totally normal to ask a perfect stranger to prom...
Anyway, it wasn't a joke, and we did end up going to Prom together- and it was a little disappointing.  Because this is not the topic of this post, I will quickly recap.  "Mr. T" had gone hiking that morning and decided not to shower before the dance, so when he came to pick me up, he kind of stunk, he needed a hair cut, and he wore bright orange flip flops...  I know it sounds like I'm a total brat, but this was just the beginning.  Dinner at Rum Jungle was great, but I noticed afterwards, on the way to the dance, he was acting a little funny.  It wasn't until we were taking pictures that I noticed, he couldn't stand up without leaning on me.  Naive little me thought he was just tired from the morning's hike, until one of the chaperon teachers asked him what drug he was on, and he assured her, "it's OK, I have a subscription."  After being used as a crutch throughout the dance, we headed out to go see Mystére.  "Mr. T" passed out at the beginning of the show, and was so "high-on-life" by the end of it, that my brother had to drive me home.  Senior Prom= Epic Fail.

Almost 10 years later I still think that story is hillarious, so you see, it's not that I wasn't THRILLED to be seeing the Cirque show again, it's just that I still had some bad memories from the first experience.  I.AM.SO.GLAD we went!  BF got us AMAZING seats, and the show was much better than I ever remember it being.  We "Oooo'd" and "Aahh'd" the entire time, and smiles and "did-you-see-how-crazy-that-was" looks were exchanged frequently.

We had such a great time, and it was so nice to shake up the Date Night routine a little bit!

I have to say, I had my grandma sew it bra pads inside every single one of my school dance dresses, since you couldnt really wear a bra with them and I was flatter than paper. oh the good old up dos and matching shawls! Sorry about your date...I had an epic fail once too. At least your new guy turned a bad memory into good one for you. <3
